    Go by train to Hanover main station (Hannover Hauptbahnhof) with long-distance or local train service.

    Go by plane to Hanover Airport (Flughafen Hannover-Langenhagen). Continue with urban train (S-Bahn) number S5 to Hanover main station (Hannover Hauptbahnhof; travel time c. 16 min).

    Follow in Hanover main station signposting to metro station Hauptbahnhof. If you arrive with long-distance bus at Hannover Hauptbahnhof/ZOB follow signposting to metro station Hauptbahnhof too (c. 5 min walk).

    Take the Stadtbahn (metro) number 13 direction Hemmingen from Hauptbahnhof (metro station) to tram stop Hemmingen/Berliner Straße (travel time c. 18 min).

    The “Hanover Stadtbahn” is a light rail system that runs as metro (with a few exceptions) in central Hanover and as tram outside central Hanover.

    Tram stop Hemmingen/Berliner Straße is serviced by Stadtbahn (tram) number 13. Bus stop Hemmingen/Berliner Straße is serviced by bus numbers 360, 363, 365 and 366.

    You have to walk c. 8 min from tram stop Hemmingen/Berliner Straße to the Fernwärme-Forschungsinstitut. Go from tram stop into direction filling station. Follow Gutenbergstraße to first diversion and turn left into Carl-Zeiss-Straße. Follow this street through its 90°‑curve. Cross the Heinrich-Hertz-Straße. Now you are on the Max-von-Laue-Straße. The institute building stands in sight on 90°‑curve of street Max-von-Laue-Straße.

    If you are using a navigation device please enter “Max-von-Laue-Straße Hemmingen”. Attention please! A possibility of confusion exists with an institution that is named after “Max von Laue” and is located in nearby town Laatzen.

    If you go by motor vehicle from Hanover at the north or from direction Pattensen/Göttingen at the south drive on federal highway B 3 to exit “Hemmingen”. Leave the roundabout after exit “Hemmingen” on district road K 221 in direction Hemmingen to the east. If you drive on street Göttinger Landstraße from Arnum at the south follow it to first crossroads in Hemmingen-Westerfeld. Turn left into street K 221 “Weetzener Landstraße”. If you come from federal highway B 3 or Devese at the west or Hemmingen (Dorf) at the east you are already driving on street K 221 “Weetzener Landstraße”. If you come from the east cross street Göttinger Landstraße at first. Turn into street Heinrich-Hertz-Straße. Turn left into street Max-von-Laue-Straße at next crossroads. You drive towards the institute building, that is on first 90°‑curve.

    If you cycle from Hanover turn into street Saarstraße at municipal border between Hanover and Hemmingen-Westerfeld. Follow this street to its southern end. Cross street Deveser Straße into street Langer Bruch. Follow this street to its southern end. Turn right into street Gutenbergstraße. Follow street Gutenbergstraße to its western end. Street Gutenbergstraße passes into street Max-von-Laue-Straße at 90°‑curve. Follow street Max-von-Laue-Straße to next 90°‑curve. There is the institute building.
